CIBC Run for the Cure

I want to thank everyone again for the support I received last year as I completed my seventh run in the CIBC Run for the Cure as a breast cancer survivor!  Together we raised nearly $5,000 and with that support were among the top individual fundraisers at the Vancouver Run.  My goal and hope for this year is that we can push our total over $5,000 raised to support research, awareness and education programs through the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.  The reason I run is to remove the fear and uncertainty that I was faced with on June 12, 2003 when I received my cancer diagnosis following a routine mammogram.  Within two months I underwent surgery to remove the cancer cells.  Because of early detection the surgery was successful and I did not need radiation treatment or chemotherapy.  During the same surgery I was able to have my breast reconstructed.  My early diagnosis and immediate treatment are directly related to the awareness of breast cancer and the monies raised by individuals like you who support events like the CIBC Run for the Cure.  I am so fortunate to have celebrated another year cancer free and hope that none of the women and girls in my family and among my friends will ever have to be faced with a diagnosis of breast cancer.  Again, this year, I am relieved to say that none of my friends has been diagnosed with breast cancer and that in itself reminds me of the success that the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is achieving through their programs.  Even so, we all know someone whose life has been affected by breast cancer and we know the devastation that it can cause families.  I am writing to ask you to extend your support once again by making a donation in 2010.  For the sixth year now, our team of breast cancer survivors called “Survivors Vancouver, Outwit, Outplay, Outlive” is participating in the Run.  We are looking for support in the form of donations or participation.  You do not need to be a survivor to join our team – family, friends and colleagues are all welcome.  If you would like to join our team please go to the Run Website at https://www.cibcrunforthecure.com/html/registration_start.asp  If you are unable to participate, cash donations are greatly appreciated and priceless to our cause.  Tax receipts will be issued for donations over $20.  Donations can be made by credit card, cash or cheques payable to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.  Donations can also be made online by going to my donation page at https://www.cibcrunforthecure.com/html/p.asp?t=3756884&l=1 or through my Facebook Profile.  The deadline for donations is September 30th, 2010.  If you’re not comfortable with donating online, please contact us and we'll get a donation form to you.  I APPRECIATE ANY SUPPORT YOU ARE ABLE TO GIVE.  BELIEVE ME YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT AREN’T JUST APPRECIATED, THEY’RE PRICELESS!
